Vice President, Planning & Development

Job Summary  
This position is reporting to the Senior Vice President, Studio Group, Facilities / Planning & Development; the Vice President of Planning & Development is responsible for overseeing all planning, budgeting and construction activity, lot master planning guidance, and directing the project management aspects of all development projects for Paramount Pictures. This position is a key liaison coordinating with executive management teams within PPC on all aspects of facilities and construction projects. Responsible for the day to day operation of the Planning & Development   Department by providing guidance for the department, developing guidelines for renovation and modifications of existing facilities, providing leadership with regard to sustainable design and construction and leading the capital construction process.

Responsibilities to include, but not limited to:
  • Exceptional leadership qualities with the ability to guide a team of professionals in the development of departmental procedures related to project management, estimating, budget controls, scheduling, Energy Management, engineering, and construction standards. Clearly understands and rewards achievement.
  • Ability to develop and implement long range planning strategies.
  • Develop design & construction standards that focus on environmental stewardship such as LEED certification and renewable energy to minimize the environmental impact of our footprint.
  • Provide project planning guidance and support to the Operations and Maintenance departments through an i n-depth knowledge of predictive and preventative maintenance programs for the building and operating systems .
  • Direct the overall flow of critical information to ensure smooth and accurate transition of projects from phase to phase in terms of cost, schedule, quality and completion.
  • Ensure effective collaboration between project team members (e.g., architects, engineers, designers, contractors and on-lot personnel) to successfully coordinate all phases of each project.
  • Strong background in design & construction processes to guide the development and creation of Owner Performance Requirements and Request For Proposals.
  • Manage all phases and elements of short term and long range studio master plan development, including planning, design, engineering and construction.
  • Establish and arranges for professional development of Planning and Development employees. 
  • Monitor/control construction through administrative direction of on-site Project Managers as well as consultants (architects, engineers) to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget.   Capable of quickly identifying situations that could negatively impact the goals and objectives of each project and rapidly implement corrective measures.
  • Establish quality control programs which are monitored through facility and project inspection criteria.  
  • Formulate and maintain departmental and project budgets and ensures proper spending practices and budgetary conformance.
  • Remain abreast of technological advancements within the facilities management and construction industries.
  • Oversee the hiring, termination, counseling, and performance appraisal of all departmental personnel.
Qualifications/Skills

Basic qualifications:
Four year degree from an accredited college in Architecture, Engineering or Construction Management; or a four year degree with eight years experience in an Architecture, Engineering, or Construction environment, or a combination thereof.
Minimum 8 years of extensive experience/knowledge of construction, design, finance, and management required.
Proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Project.

Desired skills:

  • Member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) with a professional accreditation.
  • Registered Architect or Professional Engineering certification is desirable.
  • Must be able to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee performance.
  • Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, and their impact on project activities vital.
  • Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate effectively with others is essential.
  • Knowledge and experience in estimating construction projects in Southern California.
  • Strong industry relationships in the architectural, engineering and construction fields here in Southern California.
  • Experience in managing small to large construction or renovation projects, including supervising and directing subcontractors with a proven ability to deliver on schedule, budget and with high quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Experienced in the interpretation of specifications and blueprints, preparation of construction estimates, construction documentation and design review is important to this position.
  • Excellent written and oral skills a must.
  • Thorough working knowledge of Local, State and Federal codes and regulations.
  • Thorough working knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations.
